The Laughing Kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfishers. The kookaburra was originally introduced around 1906 from mainland Australia to the Tasmanian midlands and are now very common throughout the island. They were also known in earlier times as the “ Bushman’s Clock” due to their distinctive laugh that often echoes around the bush during first and last light.
