The Wedge tailed Eagle is so called due to its long, diamond shaped tail and is Australia’s largest bird of prey. The Tasmanian Wedgetail is a distinct sub species having been separated from their mainland counterparts for over 10,000 years. This large eagle is dark brown to almost black when fully mature. The Tasmanian Wedge Tail is classified as endangered as there are only about 130 breeding pairs left.
