 Also known as the Little Penguin are wonderfully adapted to life at sea where they seem to fly through the water. It is the smallest of all penguins and the only one to breed in Australia. They live in colonies in burrows in the sand dunes or cliffs of a beach. They depart early in the morning to fish in the open sea and only return after dark to the relative safety of their burrows. They are found in various colonies along the southern coast of Australia including Tasmania.
